Can you prescribe all medications?
We can prescribe most psychiatric medications, with some limitations:
Right now we do not treat pain disorders or substance addiction.
While it was previously not allowed to prescribe controlled substances (such as stimulants, benzodiazepines and sleep medications) without an in-person medical evaluation, due to Covid-19 and what was deemed a Public Health Emergency, the DEA has (as of March 2020) temporarily changed prescribing laws to allow prescribing of controlled substances to occur with a video medical evaluation. It is possible that this allowance will be reversed such that patients may initiate care with Remedy and need to then be seen by a local medical provider to continue their medications. Your medical provider will alert you if this affects you.
When determined appropriate by your Remedy provider, low dose benzodiazepines may be prescribed for intermittent use (such as for panic attacks). We do not prescribe benzodiazepines for everyday use. This is because daily benzodiazepine use puts patients at risk for withdrawal were they to skip a dosage. Withdrawal puts patients at risk of elevated blood pressure, seizures and/or death. If you need daily benzodiazepine treatment, please reach out to a local psychiatric provider where your blood pressure and medical health can be monitored in person.
If you require daily benzodiazepine prescribing and still proceed with booking, prescribing is at the full discretion of the Remedy provider you see. You may be referred for care elsewhere, and will still be responsible for the appointment fee.
How much does it cost?
If you are planning to pay for services directly (not using medical insurance benefits): the cost is $179 for initial comprehensive 50-minute psychiatric evaluation ($199 for children/teens) and first full month of care, then $89 per month ($99 for children/teens) beginning your second month for unlimited video appointments, 1:1 provider messaging and symptom tracking. Follow-up appointments whenever you need. Cancel at any point. Superbill receipts are provided for out‑of‑network insurance claims. The cost of medication is not included, but can be covered by your insurance if you have it. If not, we can find low cost prescriptions at a pharmacy near you.
If you are planning to pay for services through one of our in-network insurance providers:
If your insurance is Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare or one of the plans listed here, once you book your appointment and submit your insurance information to us, we will process (through our insurance billing partner Alma) to let you know of any fees (such as your insurance deductible, copay and coinsurance) if they exist. The cost of medication is not included in our service, but can be covered by your insurance. If not, we can find low cost prescriptions at a pharmacy near you.
How long is the initial appointment and what will we discuss?
Your initial appointment will be 50 minutes and will include a discussion of your complete medical and psychiatric history and a focus on your current symptoms. You and your medical provider will then create a treatment plan and schedule a follow-up appointment. After the initial appointment, your psychiatric nurse practitioner will review the treatment plan with the Remedy psychiatrist and send the medication to your local pharmacy that day.
