Top FAQs

What do you treat?

We use a complete set of available medications thereby not limiting your care by limiting the medications to choose from. While we aim to eventually expand our online mental health services across the United States, we are currently licensed to see and treat only patients who are legal residents of California. Below are a list of the type of conditions we treat:

  • Acute stress disorder
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Agoraphobia
  • Anxiety disorder
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Atypical depression
  • Binge eating disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Body dysmorphic disorder
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Cyclothymic disorder
  • Depression (mood)
  • Excoriation (Skin-picking) disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Hypochondriasis
  • Hypomanic episode
  • Illness anxiety disorder (Hypochondriasis)
  • Impulse control disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Intermittent explosive disorder
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Major depressive episode
  • Mania
  • Melancholia
  • Minor depressive disorder
  • Mixed episode
  • Mood disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Persistent depressive disorder (Dysthymia)
  • Postpartum depression
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder
  • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
  • Recurrent brief depression
  • Sleep disorder
  • Social anxiety disorder (Social phobia)
  • Somatic symptom disorder
  • Somatization disorder
  • Trichotillomania

Can you prescribe all medications?

We can prescribe most psychiatric medications, with some limitations:

Right now we do not treat pain disorders or substance addiction. We also do not prescribe medications such as methadone, suboxone, or any medications to treat opiate use disorder. But, we are looking into doing this in the future.

While it was previously not allowed to prescribe controlled substances (such as stimulants, benzodiazepines and sleep medications) without an in-person medical evaluation, due to Covid-19 and what was deemed a Public Health Emergency, the DEA has (as of March 2020) temporarily changed prescribing laws to allow prescribing of controlled substances to occur with a video medical evaluation. It is possible that this allowance will be reversed such that patients may initiate care with Remedy and need to then be seen by a local medical provider to continue their medications. Your medical provider will alert you if this affects you.

When determined appropriate by your Remedy provider, low dose benzodiazepines may be prescribed for intermittent use (such as for panic attacks). We do not prescribe benzodiazepines for everyday use. This is because daily benzodiazepine use puts patients at risk for withdrawal were they to skip a dosage. Withdrawal puts patients at risk of elevated blood pressure, seizures and/or death. If you need daily benzodiazepine treatment, please reach out to a local psychiatric provider where your blood pressure and medical health can be monitored in person.
If you require daily benzodiazepine prescribing and still proceed with booking, prescribing is at the full discretion of the Remedy provider you see. You may be referred for care elsewhere, and will still be responsible for the appointment fee.

How much does it cost?

$179 for initial comprehensive 50-minute psychiatric evaluation ($199 for children/teens) and first full month of care, then $89 per month ($99 for children/teens) beginning your second month for unlimited video appointments, 1:1 provider messaging and symptom tracking.

Follow-up appointments whenever you need. Cancel at any point. No insurance needed. Superbill receipts provided for out‑of‑network insurance claims. No hidden fees. HSA (Health Savings Account) /FSA (Flexible Spending Account) payments accepted.  And Remedy’s monthly fee for unlimited medication management appointments can be less than the total cost of monthly insurance fees for mental health care.

The cost of medication is not included, but can be covered by your insurance if you have it. If not, we can find low cost prescriptions at a pharmacy near you.

How long is the initial appointment and what will we discuss?

Your initial appointment will be 50 minutes and will include a discussion of your complete medical and psychiatric history and a focus on your current symptoms. You and your medical provider will then create a treatment plan and schedule a follow-up appointment. After the initial appointment, your psychiatric nurse practitioner will review the treatment plan with the Remedy psychiatrist and send the medication to your local pharmacy that day.

90% 5 star patient reviews

My provider was excellent! She is very kind, listens to what you have to say, very knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have.

If I could give my Remedy provider 100 stars I would! My son has seen several therapists and it has never been a good experience. After speaking with her, he came in our room humming! Also, everything about Remedy has been a great experience from the start. I had a bad experience with Teladoc. It wasn't working and on my fourth phone call they discovered that they don't offer psychiatric services to minors. Tried Doctor on Demand and the website had a glitch and wouldn't let me schedule. Every aspect of Remedy was superb, from the website to the customer service call I received from my provider. Amazing!
