Remedy Psychiatry is very excited to announce that we are now in-network and accepting a number of insurance plans!  These include: Aetna, Cigna, Optum and United Healthcare, with more plans to follow.

We will still continue to provide care with or without insurance, and our care remains the same for everyone. See here for a detailed list of our current in-network insurance plans and below for more information on how payment with insurance works at Remedy.

Historically, there has been detrimental discrimination and bias against those with mental health struggles, and this has precluded millions of individuals from seeking out mental health care services. Many people can relate to feeling ashamed or embarrassed to ask for resources or help from the people around them, let alone a professional. However, as time has passed, there has been a rise in efforts to destigmatize the talk around mental illness and emphasize the importance of making mental health a priority, not a triviality. These efforts have enabled Americans to become increasingly aware and curious of the mental struggles and illnesses that may have gone unnoticed (or even brushed aside) in the past. Nonetheless, knowing that an individual needs mental health treatment is just the start of the conversation.  Actually having adequate access to healthcare services is what helps individuals actively manage their health challenges.

Barriers to mental healthcare access, such as affordability and insufficient insurance coverage, are damaging issues that prevent individuals from receiving the care they need. In 2022, 62% of Californians (and 56% of Americans) with a mental illness receive no treatment. An additional 24% had unmet needs for treatment of mental illness. In short, 86% of us aren’t getting the mental health help we need. That’s outrageous.

Not taking insurance, or limited insurance coverage, is one of the main causes of lack of care. At Remedy, our mission is to be part of the solution by making a more affordable option for mental health care for those without insurance, and to take insurance for those who have it.

How do I use my insurance with Remedy?

Insurance can be difficult to manage, and we want to make this process simpler for you.  If your current health insurance is with one of our in-network insurance carriers listed above, you will:

  1. Book your appointment with Remedy. After booking, you will receive an email invitation (from our current billing partner Alma) to submit your insurance information (including the insurance provider, member ID, and group ID) when prompted.
  2. Sit back and relax while we find out the details of your insurance eligibility. This is done through our insurance billing partner Alma, reaching out to your insurance company about the details of your plan’s coverage.
  3. Receive an email (from Alma). This email will explain the details of any fees associated with your insurance, such as insurance copays or coinsurance, if they exist with your insurance plan.
  4. Provide Alma a payment method to be used for any insurance fees (such as your copay) if they exist. Separately, Remedy will need to keep a non HSA/FSA card on record in case you miss an appointment without canceling in advance (as it’s important to pay for our team for their time).
  5. Show up for your video appointment and be on your way!

What if the cost, even with my in-network insurance, is high?

We want you to be able to pay as little as possible for your healthcare! In some cases, such as insurance plans with very high deductibles, the cost of Remedy for a full year of care out-of-pocket (paid monthly) and NOT using your insurance, may actually be less than your deductible if you have not met your deductible. Therefore it could be less costly to you to use Remedy without your insurance. In these cases, you may want to elect to not use your insurance at all, and pay out of pocket.

What if my insurance is not in your list?

If your insurance is not listed here, unfortunately Remedy is currently an ‘Out of Network’ Provider. You are still welcome to join us. And we are constantly working on adding new insurance plans!  We will let all patients know as we add new insurance plans. So, you can start your care with us now, submit your superbills for out of network benefits. A superbill is a receipt of your medical costs that you can submit to your insurance. Your insurance may reimburse you for some of these costs, and it can be applied towards your deductible.

Do you take Medicare or Medicaid?

Unfortunately, community or state plans, or Medicare or Medicaid plans are not eligible for payment of services at Remedy right now. Please note, some Medicare and Medicaid plans are administered by Optum and Aetna, however, these are still out of network plans.

Can I come to Remedy if I don’t have insurance?

Absolutely! No insurance is required, and our transparent pricing structure is a flat monthly fee as seen here for unlimited video appointments, 1 to 1 provider messaging and symptom tracking. Additionally, we will work to find low cost medications for you.

I’m confused! Where can I ask more questions?

No problem, insurance is confusing! For general questions you may have your questions answered on our FAQ page here.   If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or by phone call or text at 747-212-3876.
